El Poker en la música 3. The house of the rising sun

The House of the Rising Sun es una canción popular folk ameriana. También tiene infinidad de versiones. Joan Baez la versionó en 1959, Bob Dylan en 1964 pero quizá la versión más popular sea la de The Animals, en 1964, más movidita.

Clásicos como Dolly Parton, Haley Reinhart, The Beatles o The Doors la interpretaron en su día. Mas acá en el tiempo podemos encontrar versiones de Duran Duran, Sinead O´Connor y de Muse, por citar algunos entre muchos.

La canción habla sobre una muchacha a quien le fue mal en Nueva Orleáns por culpa de su amante, que jugaba a cartas (no queda claro a que modalidad, pero no creo que fuera el tute subastado) en la Casa del Sol Naciente. La chica se vuelve a casa mientras el gambler va de timba en timba y de borrachera en borrachera. La muchacha (no me imagino la figura de un homosexual, con lo puretas que son los yankis para estas cosas) trata de advertir a su hermana pequeña del error que cometió al enamorarse de un jugador.
